Children's Church
The Children’s Church (CC) at Wellspring Fellowship is an important arm of the Body of Christ. It is an extension of the vision of Wellspring Fellowship which is Gospel Centred, Inclusive and Outward facing.
It exists most importantly as a mandate given by our Lord Jesus Christ in Matthew 19: 14 Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”
Although they are welcome at the formal worship, children have a tendency to lose focus and are not able to grasp everything that is being taught. There are times where the content might not be relevant to them. At CC we are able to introduce our children to Christ and disciple them in their Spiritual journey at a pace and level which is comfortable to them.
The CC is a helping hand to parents that are already bringing up their children in Christ. The faith of little children is solidified as they see their peers and their walk with the Lord. We have also seen that the CC helps in encouraging parents to be more regular in attending fellowship as children are very eager to be part of the CC. In homes where the gospel is not heard, children can be a vital source of the family’s first encounters with Christ.
At CC we use curriculums that are Bible based and with sound doctrine. We encourage children to think for themselves and ask questions about things that bother them. Children are given time to express themselves through music, art and games. Every lesson is accompanied with extensive time for discussion. The children have opened up about their struggles and questions in a safe and accepting atmosphere.
We have a core team of CC veterans; Jes, Kim, Abhilasha and Sabina. They take up the role of deciding the flow of the lesson. They are also accompanied by a volunteer who helps out wherever they can. Of late we have been separating the children into 2 groups so that even the little ones (3-6 year olds) can learn something meaningful and be occupied during the CC. We have used almost the entire Wellspring Fellowship to volunteer at CC. The regulars are Kaelyn, Christel, Daniella, Sneha, Joel, Ben, Josh, We also have Abishai, Rhena, Eric, Shilpa, Kezia to thank for volunteering when we are in need.
We make sure that no one misses Church more than once a month. We schedule the dates and lessons ahead of time so that everything flows smoothly. We take two breaks; one after Easter and one during the Christmas season.
The core team makes sure to meet once a month to schedule and pray. This is usually done online.
The CC is not a recreational place where children are entertained with stories, music and crafts. A lot of thought goes into planning and execution of the lessons in order to impart faith to our kids. We would like to encourage parents as well as the church to be part of their spiritual growth. We have 4 children above 11 years of age and we would like for them to bring their Bibles to CC. We would like to have separate sessions for them. Which would mean that we would need more volunteers. Maybe a parent can volunteer once a month. Very soon they will be ready to leave the CC nest. We as the church need to be ready to take them to the next level.
Philippians 1:6 being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
